getting down to business

Very early white board session

Recognizing the time-intensive nature of UX research, CoNote addresses the challenges researchers face in synthesizing information efficiently. The platform distinguishes itself by synthesizing interviews, identifying common themes, and generating actionable insights, streamlining the entire research process.

In the realm of product development, researchers often grapple with time constraints and the need to wear multiple hats. CoNote aims to alleviate this stress by providing a tool that saves time and enhances productivity.

CoNote set three key objectives:

  1. Ensure easy and smooth user acquisition.

  2. Expedite the researcher's journey to insights.

  3. Facilitate the easy assembly and sharing of research reports.

research and discovery

Starting from scratch, CoNote conducted extensive user interviews to understand researchers' jobs, processes, and habits. Iterative design and prototyping based on user feedback shaped the platform's evolution. The platform identified a crucial insight - users were grappling with overly complicated interfaces in existing tools. Simplicity became CoNote's guiding principle.

Detailed user personas were created and user journeys were mapped to guide the app's navigation.

Crafting the right user flow

Ideation and Conceptualization

Collaborating with the CTO, CoNote developed a feature roadmap based on user needs, priorities, and feasibility. Epics and requirements were derived from the data gathered, leading to focused and creative design. Iterative design and feedback loops ensured continuous improvement.

Design and Prototyping

Adobe XD was used for design and prototyping. Fully functional prototypes facilitated reactions without distractions, aiding in documentation and handoff to the development team.

Development and Implementation

Close collaboration with the development team, addressing challenges in real-time, was crucial for meeting deadlines.

Challenges arose in user freedom, specifically around file removal in projects. This was addressed by simplifying the process. Another point of CoNote's responsiveness to user feedback led to significant improvements, such as consolidating credits into hours for clarity and allowing users to upload audio files along side video.

Launch and Post-Launch

Coordinated with the CTO to finalize a release strategy. The public beta launched on July 18, with subsequent releases already in development. We were moving fast and using CoNote to help us do it.

Initial feedback praised the clean and navigable design. The Action Items feature received particular acclaim for its efficiency in extracting actionable objectives from uploaded files. Ongoing updates addressed user-reported issues and incorporated improvements based on usage data.

As of late December, CoNote retained 100% of its user base, with 68% re-engagement within 15 days. An impressive 89% of users would recommend CoNote.

CoNote significantly increased researchers' productivity, saving them days in the research process. The platform streamlined UX research, offering a faster alternative to traditional tools.

lessons learned

The journey of building CoNote from the ground up offered a wealth of invaluable insights and experiences. From crafting efficient design components (something I can always get better at) to defining the intricacies of user requirements, each step illuminated crucial aspects of where software development, user research, sales, and design meet. By embracing the multifaceted role of a decision-maker, navigating through uncertainties and challenges, I became an integral part of a successful product launch.
