meldR
Client: Data Society
My Role: Lead UI/UX Designer
Data Society provides data science education to companies through in-person and virtual instruction. In July 2021, we began work on a product that sets out to show the learner how to achieve their goals in gaining new skills while creating a community that gives value to both the user and the company.

The design system is based in Material UI so we could easily move from design to development. The design colors were chosen to follow along with the meldR chameleon and provide us with the flexibility necessary in scaling a product up to accommodate for any changes from users, internal team, or even business objectives.
Starting a community of practice
meldR is primarily built for learners to take courses through Data Society. The dashboard is the user’s first stop before diving deeper into their course work or exploring the pathways.
This page contains their current course as well as other courses that are suggested based on what they’re currently enrolled. This page will eventually become an activity feed that displays what your colleagues are enrolled in as well as a full discussion board to encourage a community to thrive through education.
choosing a pathway
The pathways view is a complex web of courses that all connect together to form a map. We conducted many user interviews with external users that held interest in using and would be using this platform in the future. We gathered recorded the interviews and sorted through the feedback to help us define key epics within our sprint planning.
This is currently undergoing changes based on user feedback.
supervisor 1984
Supervisors in L&D departments have a lot of needs and not enough hands to do it all. In meldR, they will have the ability to see all of their current courses and who is enrolled in them. They will also have the ability to email and market the courses that have been purchased so seats get filled and skills get learned.
Eventually, the supervisor would be able to view learner metrics like skills learned, hours spent in meldR, comments left on the discussion board, and many other data points. This would allow the supervisor to strategize and plan teams for upcoming projects based on skills the learners possess.
